The Franciscans took part in a multitude of facets of scientific inquiry. One of these facets, found across time as a main object of study, was the sky. Many of the restored Franciscan manuscripts in Laudato sie display this inquisitorial nature, particularly images such as this from Francesco Fontana's, Novae coelestium. It is a simple image, but one that encapsulates a human fascination, more specifically a Franciscan, with the sky; the moon and the stars.
