About
The exhibition, Laudato sie; nature and science, hosted at the Museo di Roma in Palazzo Braschi presents a unique journey through the world of scientific inquiry within the Franciscan order. Commemorating the 800th anniversary of the death of Saint Francis, the exhibit journeys through manuscripts, drawing out ideas surrounding the unique theology emanating from the practices of Saint Francis and the subsequent Franciscan brotherhood.
Comprised of nine sections, the exhibit contains manuscripts displaying the inquiry into the mechanisms of the natural world, such as astronomy and anatomy. In addition to this, the exhibit is begun with an initial section looking at the Canticle of Brother Sun that puts forth the core beliefs and ideologies held by Saint Francis of Assisi. The exhibition concludes with a summary section tying together these insightful texts into a proposition of a recognizable Franciscan theology.
Laudato sie represents the possibility of utilizing historical texts to come to a new understanding of our shared natural world and our place and role within it.
