This notebook depicts Iacopo Dondi’s illustration of La Mandragora found in his Herbolario vulgare. His text, a product of the 13th-14 centuries, is very interesting given the fact that it was authored in the vernacular and not Latin, making the text accessible to more individuals. Iacopo Dondi recounts plants of a medicinal nature through this work but oftentimes combines them with supernatural abilities. The text reflects the overarching tendency towards the mystical found in written works from the time, as seen through La Mandragora.
